A Gift from the Heart

Giving a gift with real meaning (1-23-08)

By: Romi Sussman www.RomiSussman.com

Gift giving is a tricky activity. Sometimes, there are things the recipient really could use. Other times, it’s downright hard to know what to buy. I have a niece and nephew who seem to own stock in Toys R Us. They have everything – and I mean everything a child could ever want.

The question in a situation like this becomes – what do I get for the baby or child who has everything? One answer? A donation. I have found this to be a great, neutral way to wish someone congratulations, to say happy birthday or to offer someone a nice holiday.

Giving a donation shows the recipient (or at least the recipient’s parents) that you are thinking of them without having to shower them with unneeded gifts. Often, a lovely certificate accompanies the gift and this can be framed or placed in a memory book for the child to keep and see.

Tell someone you love them in a meaningful way with a donation to your, or their, favorite cause. Everyone wins with this idea!
